Big Chill disappointment

Well, I headed over to the countryside around Eastnor Castle, never quite sure where I’m headed when I go to the Big Chill, more a matter of leaving London and arriving at the correct train station for the shuttle bus. It isn’t worth writing about this experience really, as I was unable to get any interviews or images because the whole press allocation had changed, so that was a disappointment from the start… Those poor lovelies at Idea Generation were not given a lot of resources to manage press this year and I believe that even some of those with pre-accreditation arranged didn’t get their passes either.

Anyway, Thom Yorke was amazing and his new song, ‘Give up the ghost’ actually turned my legs to jelly and I felt like I was going to fall over. Unfortunately straight after that song I had to leg it to the loo, so missed the rest, but believe that really was the highlight. And that’s it. Oh, tangerine fields camping had really good toilet and shower facilities which made going to the loo a joy for me, yes, I’d say that is about my biggest highlight this year.

What has changed and will probably be lost forever… is the atmosphere. The luxury festival that was literally ‘chilled’ is now rammed with kids – real spotty teenage drunken and drugged kids with no spatial awareness or coolness about them. They don’t know the rules of the jungle. They shout and vomit over amazing performances, you find yourself getting into some old tunes Tom Middleton is delivering to you, only to be trampled by a group of these said youths… Anyway, I know I sound like a right old fart, but I don’t care. I love SOME young people, but only those who have general awareness and know how to party with respect for others (and elders!). Tee hee! Secret Garden next year? Boutique festivals? Leave the country?
