a project for humanity
In July 2019, I created an art project, that took first breaths of life as a spontaneous video installation, asking out community of Hackney Wick, East London, WHO ARE WE? This came about as a side effect from my personal trauma at the result of the EU referendum that led us to the confused, fearful and divisive stance of ‘Brexit’.
As heartbreaking as it was to lose my birthright as an EU citizen, this decision by half the nation, led me to feel the distress and unwelcoming message that my friends, colleagues, community were feeling… those who for 15 years made London their home, contributed, partied, laughed, paid taxes! From all over this beautiful earth… in Hackney Wick we have the world.
So <who are we> became a peaceful protest in support of global citizens, exploring who we are, inside and out.
Part 1 concluded with a group exhibition of over 60 artists contributing, workshops, performance and play, in the heart of the Wick with a DIY takeover of the Trampery ‘meanwhile’ space.
We go where the leylines cross and Humans are Hybrid. We follow our heart.
Part 2 takes us to Ibiza, Spain, to continue the social anthropological research project, learning about Ibizenco traditions, local knowledge and heritage, reflecting my learnings through artistic expression.
